Certified Nursing Assistants demonstrate the knowledge of standards, policies and procedures, and integrate knowledge into delivery of care. CNAs act in a professional manner positively representing Philip Health Services, Inc. and pursue opportunities for personal growth. CNAs provide support to Hospital Nursing with patient registration and customer service activities. CNAs always maintain an elevated level of confidence. CNAs are responsible for patient registration, patient movement, scheduling, and ensuring all appropriate signatures are completed. CNAs assist nursing staff and patients in making transportation arrangements for patients to and from outside appointments and for transfers to another facility, as well as assisting nursing staff in setting up appointments and referral appointments for patients. CNAs serve as the main point of contact at the nurse's station

Your day as a Certified Nursing Assistant

As a Certified Nursing Assistant at Philip Health Services, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to patients in a dynamic hospital environment. This position is mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding, offering you a unique opportunity to face diverse challenges every day. Your responsibilities will vary based on the individual needs of the patients, from assisting with daily activities to monitoring vital signs. You will work closely under the direction of a Registered Nurse, ensuring that each patient receives personalized and attentive care. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administer treatments as prescribed within standard nursing practice guidelines and in full compliance with established nursing protocols.
  • Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.
  • Record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff.
  • Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for patients.
  • Lift, or assist others to lift, and transfer patients as needed to provide care.
  • Prepare or serve food trays, assist with meals as directed.
  • Understand and demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support.
  • Coordinates registration accuracy and scheduling data entered by staff daily.
  • Performs all patient registrations for hospital, ER, and swing bed admissions to obtain all patient signatures, consents and notices.
  • Must obtain all appropriate signatures from patients during registration process.
  • Greeting visitors in a positive manner. Meticulous, effective communication skills and the ability to utilize them effectively.
  • Answering phones in a positive manner and routing calls appropriately.
  • Schedules appointments for patients as needed and communicates those appointments to appropriate chains of communication.
  • Answers call lights and perform patient care duties within the scope of Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Observes and reports on patients' conditions and documents observations as required. Advises supervising charge nurse of patient's status at beginning and end of shift.
  • Contributes knowledge of patient's conditions/needs to patient care plans. Assists in the implementation of care plans as directed within the parameters of established policy and procedure.
  • Use appropriate critical thinking and judgement in provision of care. Performs all aspects of treatment based upon national, departmental and evidence-based standards.
  • Communicates and delegates pertinent patient information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Documents in a timely, accurate manner which supports medical necessity in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Exhibits awareness of needs for diverse patient populations.
  • Attend team and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of system and hospital business and its affairs and its patient's, employees, and medical staff's records and information always.
  • Presents a positive image through professional mannerisms, dress, conduct and attitude.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a professional attitude, in all situations; the ability to see the patient as a unique individual, rather than a task to complete.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have a genuine interest in patient care and the ability to be patient, empathetic and tactful in dealing with residents, families, visitors and co-workers.
  • Must pass a Physical Therapy pre-employment screening is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with providers and all levels of Philip Health Services, Inc. staff.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule as directed by supervisor.
  • May be asked to work on call, when needed, to ensure 24-hour coverage of department.
  • CNAs must understand proper lift techniques and body mechanics, to ensure safety for themselves and others.
  • CNAs must have the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions, the ability to identify and prioritize duties and the ability to work under stress and concentrate on critical tasks.
  • Moderate exposure to contagious diseases, blood and body fluids (respiratory secretions, urine, feces, wounds, and burns).
  • Must be a critical thinker capable of setting up health services for a plethora of medical conditions.
  • Must be able to adapt to frequent interruptions while concentrating on critical tasks.
  • Must be initiative-taking and have the emotional stamina to exercise tact and poise when interacting with clinical staff that are performing time-critical or life-critical tasks.
  • Confidentiality must be maintained in working with medical, personnel, and financial information.

Education and Experience:

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification will be provided by PHS if not in place.
  • No previous experience is required, but it is preferred to be at least 16 years old.
  • Certified and up to date in Basic Life Support, will be provided by PHS is not in place.
  • Experience with computerized health information systems is preferred. Must be familiar with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy Work- Exerting an excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Prolonged periods of standing and walking are required.
  • Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Typing/keying comprises a significant amount of work function for this position.
  • Must be able to use and manipulate hands to provide patient care.
  • Corrected vision and hearing withing normal range to observe and communicate with patients and professional staff.
