On July 16th, the Maple Heights Police Department swore in two new officers to join the department. Police Cadet First Class Corey Robinson & Police Cadet Nicholas Quella are the two newest members of the Maple Heights Police Department. I wish them a long and safe career with the MHPD!

Yesterday, I was honored to be a guest panelist of out LGBTQIA+ elected officials from across Northeast Ohio hosted by the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats and Plexus. Representation matters, because if you can see it, you can be it. It is absolutely necessary for somebody to be in the room. The presence of LGBTQ candidates in office have a significant impact on LGBTQ-related laws and policies that are passed. Last night, we spoke truth to power!

Great turn out yesterday evening at the second meeting of Neighbors on Duty in Maple Heights. Municipal Judge Sergio DiGeronimo clarified Marijuana laws while County Prosecutor/Supervisor of Crime Strategies Ryan Bokoch explained how law enforcement agencies are collaborating across the county. Chief Hansen and Mayor Blackwell offered great insight into local strategies, duties and statistics. Our city is built on the strength of our citizens. Every day, we encounter situations calling upon us to be the eyes and ears of law enforcement. Not only does Neighbors on Duty allow citizens to help aid in safety, it is also an opportunity for neighbors to bond through service. Thank you to the sponsors: Mayor Annette Blackwell, Councilwoman Toni Jones, Councilwoman Dana Anderson, Councilman Timothy Tatum, Former Councilman Richard Trojanski, Bob & Lisa Stemnock of LightComm Design, Inc. and Weldon PC.

Ahead of Pride Month, the Maple Heights City Council refused to vote on a Pride Month Resolution. This is not the first time that Maple Heights City Council has had issues acknowledging Pride Month in the city.As someone identifying with the LGBTQ+ community and the first out gay elected official in the city's history, I find this extremely damaging to the city's image and disappointing for those LGBTQ+ citizens living or working in the city.
