Hall Layton L. Hall, age 91, died April 18, 2004, at his home in Mount Juliet, Tenn. For over 64 years, he was married to Lucile Hall, who preceded him in death, Nov. 2003. Layton was born in Gilbertsville, the son of Zen and Myrtle Whitledge Hall, who preceded him in death.

He had outlived all of his siblings, four brothers, Vechal, Webb, Coy and Massie, and two sisters, Veda and Velda. He was raised in the Gilbertsville community, where he received his education through high school. Later in life he continued his education at Freed Hardeman College in Henderson, and received a bachelor's degree from Kentucky Wesleyen University. Layton become a Christian in his mid twenties and preached his first sermon shortly thereafter in Evansville, Ind. For more than 60 years, he served as an evangelist and minister of the Church of Christ over a wide area of Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois, Indiana, and West and Middle Tennessee, retiring at the age of 88.

He was known for his joy of working with young people, especially at Christian youth camps. He was a strong supporter of these camps, where he served as a leader and teacher. Many young people were led to give their lives to Christ because of his influence. He was known as an avid rabbit hunter, who led men to the Lord through developing a relationship with them as they hunted together. It was these rabbit hunts that furnished the meat for his annual "rabbit fry" that raised funds to support these Christian youth camps as well as other good works.

His life was spent dedicated to spreading the love of the Lord. He was known for his tireless efforts in ministering to others. His appreciation for the value of hard work came to him early in life as the son of a share cropper. This was a work ethic he carried daily into his ministry of spreading the gospel to all with whom he came in contact. "He had fought the good fight, he had finished the race, he has kept the faith.

Finally, there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness."
