The much-anticipated release of "Inside Out 2" has arrived.
The sequel, out June 14, comes nearly a decade after Disney and Pixar released "Inside Out," a coming-of-age film that followed 11-year-old Riley Andersen as she navigated life in a new city with the assistance of her emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust.
Tony Hale, who voices Fear in "Inside Out 2," tells TODAY.com that the first film was one of his "favorite movies of all time."
“The way that Pixar has orchestrated the emotional life, which is obviously very complex, and made it accessible, I’ve just never seen anything like it. It was a game changer," he said.
"Inside Out 2" picks Riley's story up a few years later and sees her as a teenager attending hockey camp before she starts high school. In addition to the emotions in the first film, viewers get introduced to five new personalities: Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, Embarrassment and Nostalgia.

Returning Characters
Amy Poehler as Joy
Amy Poehler reprises her role as Joy, the first emotion to appear inside Riley's mind when she's born, in "Inside Out 2."
Lighthearted and optimistic, Joy fittingly strives to keep Riley joyful.
When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the "Inside Out 2" premiere earlier this month, Poehler said that playing Joy is "an incredible gift."
"It's changed me a lot. I'm very, very grateful to be back," Poehler said.
Phyllis Smith as Sadness
Phyllis Smith returns as Sadness in "Inside Out 2."
Sadness entered Riley's mind less than a minute after Joy. The embodiment of sorrow and pessimism, Sadness is Joy's polar opposite.
Lewis Black as Anger
Lewis Black reprises his role as Anger, Riley's fiery emotion, in "Inside Out 2."
Overreactive and extremely impatient, Anger is passionate about fairness, and when things go awry, he tends to explode (literally).
The comedian told NBC affiliate KNBC in an interview on June 11 that it's "great" to return as Anger for the "Inside Out" sequel.
"The first (movie) went so well, (Pixar) is an incredible organization to work for. They have a huge respect for actors, which is unusual," Black said. "So, it was really simple to just get back. It's really just a pleasure."
Tony Hale as Fear
Hale replaces Bill Hader as Fear, the emotion who ventures to protect Riley from potential disasters, in "Inside Out 2."
The voice of reason among the emotions, Fear is often sarcastic and tends to closely evaluate the risk involved in Riley's decisions.
"I did a lot of screaming, which is actually fun because I kind of want to scream like Fear all the time," Hale tells TODAY.com about voicing Fear in the sequel. "It's fun to walk into a voiceover booth and just lose it."
Hale says the "Inside Out" franchise aims to break the negative stigma around fear — and all emotions, for that matter.
"They all are playing a role, they're all trying to help," Hale says of emotions. "They go awry, but if I try to push them away, they're just going to get stronger, rather than if I kind of learned to embrace them a little bit, have compassion for them. Because they're a part of us. And then it kind of almost can work for you and lose that kind of sting or power that it has over you."
Liza Lapira as Disgust
Liza Lapira replaces Mindy Kaling as Disgust in "Inside Out 2."
Disgust is highly judgmental and opinionated. Stubborn and extremely skeptical, Disgust makes every effort to protect Riley from social embarrassment.
"I had really, really high expectations, and this by far exceeded them," Lapira told Screen Rant of playing Disgust. "The level of joy that I had doing it, and the level of joy even now, is beyond. It's definitely a highlight of my career."
New Characters
Maya Hawke as Anxiety
"Stranger Things" actor Maya Hawke joins the "Inside Out 2" cast in a starring role as Anxiety.
"It's such an honor," Hawke told The Hollywood Reporter at the "Inside Out 2" premiere on June 10. "It's such a rare thing in one's life to get to be a part of something that's this good and this popular and is actually a good thing to put out into the world."
Perpetually nervous and a total control freak, Anxiety carries baggage, both figuratively and literally. The latter can be seen in the sequel's official trailer, where Anxiety bears multiple suitcases when she introduces herself to the original emotions.
Ayo Edebiri as Envy
"The Bear" actor Ayo Edebiri joins the "Inside Out 2" cast as the tiny, wide-eyed Envy.
As her name suggests, Envy is indelibly jealous of and fascinated by what other people have. For example, in the sequel's trailer, Envy pines over Disgust's hair.
On May 28, Pixar shared a video on Instagram of Edebiri's recording sessions for Envy. Fans were quick to express their love for the actor's voice-acting abilities.
"SHE WAS MADE FOR THIS," one user wrote on Instagram.
"Incredible voice actor!!!! What can't she do???" another added.
Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui
French actor Adèle Exarchopoulos joins the "Inside Out 2" cast as Ennui.
Ennui is the French word for "boredom." Naturally, in the sequel's trailer, Ennui is seen lying on a couch in Headquarters, apathetic about her surroundings.
Constantly bored and disconnected, Ennui prevents Riley from focusing on things that aren't worth her time.
Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment
"Black Bird" and "Cobra Kai" actor Paul Walter Hauser joins the "Inside Out 2" cast as Embarrassment.
Quiet, shy and very awkward, Embarrassment reacts when something socially unacceptable occurs by using his hoodie as a hiding place.
"I think the animation team and all the creatives in the think tank did an amazing job with how each character kind of physically does embody (the actor)," Hauser told ComingSoon. "And I really like the hooded sweatshirt choice."
June Squibb as Nostalgia
Oscar-nominated actor June Squibb joins the "Inside Out 2" cast as Nostalgia, the eldest emotion inside Riley's mind.
In the sequel's final trailer, shared on June 4, Nostalgia reminisces about when she, Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui entered Headquarters.
"That was like 30 seconds ago, Nostalgia," Ennui says.
Nostalgia appropriately responds, "Yeah, those were the days."
